How to Create Collections in Shopify
Creating collections in Shopify is a crucial step in organizing your online store and making it easier for customers to find the products they are looking for. Collections allow you to group products based on various criteria, such as product type, price, or seasonality. In this article, we will guide you through the process of creating collections in Shopify, ensuring that your store is well-organized and user-friendly.
Step 1: Access Your Shopify Admin Dashboard
To begin creating collections, you first need to log in to your Shopify admin dashboard. Once logged in, you will see a menu on the left-hand side of the screen. Click on “Products” to access the product management section.
Step 2: Navigate to Collections
In the “Products” menu, click on “Collections” to view the existing collections in your store. If you have not created any collections yet, this section will be empty.
Step 3: Create a New Collection
To create a new collection, click on the “Create collection” button located at the top right corner of the screen. This will open a new window where you can set up your collection.
Step 4: Set the Collection Title and Handle
In the new collection window, the first thing you need to do is set a title for your collection. This title will be visible to customers and should be descriptive and easy to understand. Below the title field, you will find the “Handle” field. The handle is a URL-friendly version of your collection title and is used to create the collection’s URL. Make sure to choose a unique handle that reflects the collection’s content.
Step 5: Choose a Collection Type
Shopify offers two types of collections: manual and automatic. Manual collections require you to manually add products to the collection, while automatic collections are generated based on specific criteria, such as product type, price, or tags. Choose the collection type that best suits your needs.
Step 6: Add Products to the Collection
For manual collections, you can add products by clicking on the “Add products” button and then searching for the products you want to include. You can also select multiple products at once by holding down the “Ctrl” (or “Cmd” on a Mac) key while clicking on the desired products.
For automatic collections, you will need to set the criteria that will determine which products are included in the collection. This can be done by selecting the appropriate options from the dropdown menus or by entering specific values.
Step 7: Set Additional Collection Details
Once you have added products to your collection, you can set additional details such as the collection description, image, and sorting options. The description can provide more information about the collection to customers, while the image can help make it stand out on your store’s homepage. Sorting options allow you to determine how products are displayed within the collection, such as by price, popularity, or new arrivals.
Step 8: Save and Publish the Collection
After setting up all the necessary details, click on the “Save” button to create your collection. If you are satisfied with the collection, you can also choose to publish it immediately by clicking on the “Publish” button. This will make the collection visible to customers on your store.
Congratulations! You have successfully created a collection in Shopify. By organizing your products into collections, you can improve the shopping experience for your customers and drive more sales for your online store.
