How to See Recently Deleted on Mac

Have you ever accidentally deleted a file on your Mac and wish you could quickly retrieve it? The Mac operating system provides a handy feature called “Recently Deleted” that stores deleted files for a certain period of time. In this article, we will guide you on how to see recently deleted files on your Mac and retrieve them if needed.

Step 1: Access the Recently Deleted Folder

1. Click on the Finder icon in the Dock to open the Finder window.

2. In the sidebar, click on “Recently Deleted” to view the deleted files.

Step 2: Navigate to the Recently Deleted Folder

1. If the “Recently Deleted” folder is not visible in the sidebar, you can navigate to it manually.

2. Click on “Go” in the menu bar at the top of the screen.

3. Select “Recently Deleted” from the dropdown menu.

Step 3: Browse and Restore Deleted Files

1. Once you have accessed the “Recently Deleted” folder, you will see a list of deleted files and folders.

2. Browse through the list and select the files you want to restore.

3. To restore a single file, right-click on it and choose “Put Back.” This will move the file back to its original location.

4. To restore multiple files, select them by clicking and dragging a selection box or holding down the Command key while clicking on each file. Then, right-click on the selected files and choose “Put Back.” Alternatively, you can press Command + C to copy the files and Command + V to paste them back to their original location.

Step 4: Empty the Recently Deleted Folder

1. After restoring the deleted files, you may want to empty the “Recently Deleted” folder to free up space on your Mac.

2. In the “Recently Deleted” folder, click on the “File” menu at the top of the screen.

3. Select “Empty Recently Deleted.” A confirmation dialog will appear, asking if you are sure you want to delete all items in the folder. Click “Empty” to proceed.

By following these simple steps, you can easily see and restore recently deleted files on your Mac. Remember that the “Recently Deleted” feature is only available for files deleted from the Mac desktop, external drives, and network locations. If you delete files from an app or a specific folder, you may need to check the app’s trash or folder’s trash for deleted items.
